How Is A Mammogram Done?

To obtain clear X-ray images, gentle compression is applied to the breast using a plastic paddle. Once the breast is appropriately positioned and compressed, the mammography machine takes two standard X-ray images of each breast, capturing both top-to-bottom and side views. The procedure is then repeated for the other breast.
Is Mammogram Painful?
The compression during the procedure may cause some temporary discomfort. It is also painful for some women. However, it is necessary to spread out the breast tissue and minimize overlapping during a mammogram to ensure optimal visibility of any potential abnormalities. An entire mammogram process typically takes about 20 minutes.
